What is the Secwépemc-Ka Tek̓wemíple?

Our Secwépemc-Ke Tek̓wemíple is the Chief Atahm School governing council that helps make decisions on school policies, budget and other administrative concerns. The Tek’wemiple is comprised of parents of children in attendance at Chief Atahm School, former staff and students and Elders. Secwépemc-Ke means “I am Secwépemc” and Tek̓wemíple can be translated as meaning the decision-makers or council.

Secwepemc-Ka Mission Statement

The Secwepemc-Ka Tek̓wemíple is a not for profit, volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences of all Chief Atahm School students and to supporting Secwépemc language educational initiatives. We do this by:

  • Being a powerful advocated for children providing the guidance and with providing the resources to develop and deliver high quality educational programming with Secwepemctsín at the forefront
  • Bringing together parents, teachers, students and community members to practice our Secwépemc value of k̓wseltktnéws
  • Providing experiences and enhancement opportunities for every student to excel
  • Building a strong, welcoming, and healthy school environment that works toward our vision of a “a Secwépemc-speaking community living in balance with nature”

About Secwepemc-Ka Fundraising Account

Secwepemc-Ka is the fundraising account name of the Chief Atahm School Tek̓wemíple which was started by a group of parents in 1987.  Secwepemc-Ka is the original name of the language nest which later grew to become Chief Atahm School. Three members of the Chief Atahm School Tek̓wemíple are elected to be the signing officers for the account housed at the RBC branch in Chase.
