11 - 13

Grade 5/6

In Grade Five and Six, students work on transitioning the skills they’ve learned in Secwepemc language immersion into English. We provide strong academic support for this process.

Transition to English

Research has shown that there is a brief transition period when language immersion students are working on “translating” what they’ve learned in one language to another. This transition takes about 6 to 8 months. After this transition, students are fully able to work in an English environment. By the time an immersion student gets to high school, there should be no noticeable difference, except for the fact that your child would know two languages!
